New De@th Cab.

Band photos are always a bit weird. I'm sorry, but how do you get it right?

Anyhoo. Here's a track from the forthcoming album, should be released on May 31 - but hopefully sooner, right? Right! L33k, we await you.

This new song is called S0me Boys, it's actually quite nice. I haven't listened to these guys in quite awhiles, and the only album of theirs I can actually listen to properly is Transatlanticism. That's a mighty fine album, although quite heavy on the emotionalness-ness; but I can dig it, I guess I must have a bit of a vagina. Just, like, a little bit.

Anyhoo, back to the matter at hand, this new track is pretty awesome. There're some nice bass squelches going on, with Benjy rocking some almost-trashy, lo-fi vocal effect; Obvs Benjy's talking about some boys and some girls, some of them sleeping alone, some not. Some wack emo bullcrap which totes will get eaten up by some of you peeps that'll be retreating to the cold warmth of their empty beds this winter (probs including me). It's nice and comforting, sometimes. There're some nice layered vocal melodies going on in the background, too. And a real replendent chorus... It's totes nice, I think I'm getting into nice stuff again.

Someone once told me that Death Cab is music for boys who don't have girlfriends but wish they had. I'm sure that's about half of us, right? Everybody get your cardigans, horn-rimmed glasses, little notebooks and obscure band shirts out and then we can look sad, out. It's time.

If you're into this vibe, you'll be totes into The Good Life's Album of The Year, one of Tim Kasher from Cursive's side-projects. It's all about a relationship and all that teary kinda junk, but it totes makes me cry. Every time. If you're a weepy sonuvabitch, you should definitely grab it.

tUnE-yArDs

I don’t know how to even begin to explain the brilliance of tUnE-yArDs new record “whokill”. Seamlessly combining a myriad of diverse influences; including jazz, funk, rock, R&B and Afro-pop, into a very unique yet cohesive sound which perfectly balances these elements so that they are never unwelcome yet never go unnoticed. However, the real genius of this record lies in the attitude and confidence of the delivery. Merrill Garbus, the tUnE-yArDs mastermind, sounds like she could lead the armies of earth in defence of an alien offensive. Check out one of the many standout tracks below and experience all this for yourself. A whole lotta soul.

New Shady Lane Mix

Chilled vibes to commiserate the end of summer.

Take it.

New Rad1ohead 7". Well... let's see...

I'm basically listening to this as I type. This first track, i don't know. It seems a bit better than the whole of fucken King of Limbs. It's lees frenetic. It does go on, though. In fact it still is.
Funny thing is, Rad1ohead, suddenly, after the release of their last EP (It's a godamn EP, ok? Ok.), started getting a shitload of flak. People started finding reasons for disliking their whole process. Their laboured, we're going to craft a godamn album for five-six-seven years process. This is in stark contrast to somone like, say, Bradford Cox, who releases, let's say, 200 FUCKEN SONGS A YEAR or whatever. This doesn't necessarily mean all of them will be good, and in fact alot of them are just pretty ok and fine to listen to BUT it beats waiting around years and years while some band who, apparently, are geniuses craft, I reiterate, CRAFT, some recording, sitting in studio, being pedantic.
You can plainly see I'm irritated and I'm trying not to let that cloud my vision, but, god, It's hard.

I guess the pressures are tough, when the world touts you as some godamn geniuses. Means you have a shiteload to prove, or something. But it's totally their fault, y'know. Release a game-changer and your game has changed. Ask Interpol. Or The Strokes. They can never live up to their previous offerings. And that's a shame.
I just think, with the weight of being fucking geniuses, Radiohead are trying way too hard to be too fucken clever. And it's boring the shit out of me.

New Familjen Single

I love Familjen, the alias of Swedish artist Johan T Karlsson. So, now that you know that, check out his new single. This is taken from his most recent record "Mänskligheten" which is quite a departure from the synth-heavy electro pop of his first release "Det snurrar i min skalle" and is quite adventurous in combining new sounds and influences. “Man Ser Det FrÃ¥n MÃ¥nen” represents this progression nicely, beginning with an extended ambient intro and combining more organic elements than previous efforts. However, once the vocals kick in its classic Familjen, infectious as hell, with fantastic instrumental hooks and a very cool bassline tying the whole thing together.

Familjen also happens to be responsible for one of my all time favourite songs (and accompanying music video). Check it out, it’s kinda great.

Wildebeests!!

Maybe you haven't seen this. You should. It's excellent. The man's voice is a countertenor and it is marvellous. Just sayin'.

Me and my garage

There are particular tags which always catch me when I’m looking for new music. Descriptions such as lo-fi, fuzz, garage and noise pop always get me interested and willing to make an extra effort to hear what such a band is all about. Ivory Wave fits all the aforementioned descriptions. It’s premium lo-fi, fuzzy, garage pop with just the right amount of punch and attitude. I love how many young bands are emerging which embrace this lo-fi, punk-informed pop sound and the DIY attitude generally associated with it. You can get hold of Ivory Waves most recent EP ‘John Depp’ (Yes, him) free from their bandcamp or check out the track below if you need a little convincing.

Sm. Black D-Trotter Sesh! It's Luvverly.

Lissen. If none of y'all have heard Small Black... well... you... you better, ok?
They are, without a doubt one of the leading Chillwavve artists of the whole movement right now. Early, when I mentioned those times when Chillwavvers "don't promote a sense of explosiveness - in most cases", these are one of those cases when they do. Small Black is just pure awesome. It drips awesome. It exudes awesome. Much like those try-hards The Strokes just seemed to be 'cool', 'too cool', 'uber-cool' at the advent of the garage/post-punk revival way back when, these kids just are casually, ineffectually, sloppily awesome - note the lack of parantheses, there.

You need to grab this new D-trotter session. But first, you NEED their first EP. It's real good.

And then you need to grab the D-trotter Session.

New Grnderman!

No words. Just take. Quick!

Ricky Eat Acid

Chillwavve still has the propensity to make me feel awesome. Yes, I know it's not very 'hooky' music. It doesn't promote a sense of explosiveness - in most cases. It's hazy, it's indistinct, it's vocals and melodies are hidden under washes of reverb. [I keep talking about fucken Reverb, don't I? ( note the CAP - ED  :D )].

But what it lacks in concrete form it more than makes up for in an almost hidden tone, colour, mood.
It makes one feel good. Wothout asking much of you. And that, in itself, is quite marvellous. So, if you're looking for something that is going to change your life, please leave Ricky Eat Acid alone.
If you want something that will make you smile, for awhile, then watch this:

Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhappy
Ok.

So here's a teaser from Ricky's new release:

And here's Ricky's new release:

Liz Harris, I Love You. (Can we have coffee sometime?)

Holy Crap. I Love Liz. So Hard.
I'm so lazy, though, to write about her. How to explain the many nights I've spent curled up in my blankets with her previous offering (you, really, best take it) floating around my ears, filling me with intense joy?

{ Since I'm so lazy, here's her wiki. }

HOWEVER:
In addition to being startlingly marriageable, Liz is also one of my favourite things to fall asleep to, ever.
This, apparently, sounds like a bad thing. It's not. Liz carts (sic? floats, perhaps - Ed)  you off to sleep with her startlingly minimal, yet full, approach to Dream Pop; sending you drifting on a haze-wavve of SHITLOADS of reverb. I'd recommend NOT listening to Liz in the bath, as you'd probs just want to cut those wrists and drift off to Liz's plaintive drones of "I'd rather be sleeping...[something about Tidal Waves]" and then SLEEP FOREVER.
It's hard to know what she's moaning about half the time, but when you catch it, it sure sounds pretty.

I'd recommend you watch this, now:

Anyhoo, without further meandering [and rather crap writing on my part], here's Liz's new Album:

New D33rhunter single!!

I have no idea what's on it yet but:

(ADD: Just got it. All it is is a new b-side plus the SAME version of Mem Boy as is from their last release, Halcy0n. The b-side is called Nosebl33d, and it is marginally attractive to my ears. The reason I say marginally is because I'm not sure just yet whether my listening is sullied by their previous effort or no. Anyhoo, it's just a single, DL and see. Apparently everyone else loved Halcy0n. I didn't.)

YOU BEST TAKE IT.*Been informed that link no longer works. Thanks Rob.

TRY THIS ONE.

OR THIS ONE.

A little bit geeky

Today has been a day for my mind to be blown. Only fitting then that the last thing I'm listening to tonight is this new release from Groundislava aka Jasper Patterson's debut LP. Mixing together strong 80's synth elements with 8-bit/chip-tune/video game stylings, while maintaining a great flow and melody throughout, this song enters your mind smoothly and with no intention of leaving. Groundislava is signed to the Friends of Friends Music imprint, who are doing fantastic things, and this record should be quite impressive if this song is anything to go by. His previous effort, Book of Tech is also available for free download. Finally, his dad is apparently the guy who directed and animated A-ha's 'Take On Me' video. Make of that what you will.

New Pandy!

Hullo Pandy, you're back, that's nice; Now, what is this? It's a new album. That's great, why is it so wet?

Pandy's new release is, indeed, absolutely sopping. I know I often walk around tooting 'I dunno what I'd do without reverb, I think I'd kill myself' [or the more inclusive 'we'], however, Pandy has taken his previous efforts Beachy Boyz overtness and kept Japan in mind: This new record has been swamped, swallowed, deluged, drowned, drenched, immersed, obliterated by a huge dirty wave of fucken reverb.

This I like, alot. I like dirt. Ask me about Jazz, just fucken ask me, I dare you. And if you say 'sax'... ... *takes deep breath*.
It's deep, it's down-low, there're alot of slow-burners here; The ocean is calling; as opposed to the sunny, happy beach-vibes, Noah invites you into the depths. Join him.

Anyhoo, this copy that I'll be giving you is 192 [not 320, Riaan, you pedantic sonuvabitch] but, you know what, fuck you, I think Pandy will be happy. I mean, look at him:

Here're little teasers just in case you're a dumb bastard who's too scared to DL the whole thing:

The Title Track.
The one I've liked most so far.

AND HERE:
                THE WHOLE FUCKEN THING.

THE WHOLE FUCKEN THING AT 320*

San Francisco based artist Patric Fallon has just released a new song under his solo project moniker Courtship. After the wonderful down-tempo dream pop of his first EP ‘Kaleidoscope Days’ comes this dark, atmospheric, almost demented piece of brilliance. ‘Housed’ is the first single from the forthcoming ‘Eve’ EP which, judging by this song, is definitely something to look forward to in these troubling times. All of Courtships releases are available for free via bandcamp, including an excellent stripped down cover of Ciara’s ‘Ride’. Check it out.
