Tropical Vibes make my booty shake, hard.

Whew. It's fresh. It's new. It's very exciting. And I want to dance to it at parties.

The new TANL*NES kicks serious ass. The mad-beats. The energy. The tropical-vibes.
All round booty-shakingness makes this a serious win.

You really must TAKE IT.

Speculation

Found this quite quite recently. It was an instant hit on my ears. It's lo-fi as fuck, drenched in noisy-ness and alround BAD SOUNDING.
Which means, of course, that i absolutely adore it

the projects name is SPCLTR (as in someone who speculates) and the album name is LIFEST*LE.

It's got that chillwave edge, a delightful messiness (very bedroom-esque) plus the album art is super weird. Look closely. What the fuck is going on in that picture?

Little Loud

Little loud is some guy from Brighton but nobody really cares about that. What we do care about however, is the brilliantly spacey, slightly chillwavey, cosmic road trip remixes that he has been putting out recently.

Toto cover FTW!

Yep. You can see the grain in the cover art. It must be Chillwave.

Who doesn't like Toto? I mean, really. The cover of Africa on this EP is a sure win.

Somewhere

New Sofia Copella film Somewhere, starring Stephen Dorff and Dakota Fanning's little sister Elle.

The film was done with the same studio as Lost In Translation. Soundtrack by Sofia's husband's band, Phoenix!

Here's the trailer.

Looks like it will be too lovely!

Christmas Pressies from the Blogosphere!!

My feeling is that you'll probs only be able to DL these by the morrow considering the traffic i'm getting so I guess you can open the files tomorrow, like a REAL christmas present.

So... what's for Exmiss, you ask...?

Well... First on the happylist is that band that's named after the month we're in right now;
They have a 2011 leak, so you can grab this NICE and EARLY. It all sounds good;
I've checked the tracklisting and it's all there. The bit-rate is nice and up there too, so it's not a BAD leak.

Anyhoo...

Next up on the happy list is one of my personal favourite musicians from the past two years or so.
His music has consistently been pretty amazing; excepting for that bludgeoning Four Volume batch he threw at our faces last month - too much Coxy, too much.
Here's a little Exmiss song pack, with different versions of the one song:

But WAIT There's MORE:

BCH HSE (we're refraining from using vowels in an effort to protect ourselves from the ever-present iPolice, so, if you don't know who I'm referring to their name is a House that's on a piece of sand located near the sea... Geddit? Ok? OK.) ... ... ANYHOO;

BCH HSE have released a lil' Exmiss single aswell; It's quite yummy like their FANTASTIC release this year.

                                                    TAKE IT

Enjoy, From the SB team!

AND, Happy Holidays!

Here are my favourite tracks from the new "A Christmas Gift for You from Moshi Moshi" compilation:

Slow Club - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Ingo Star Cruiser - Just Like Christmas

New single from Toro Y Moi!

Sweet sweltering seafood sex - new song from Toro Y Moi, yum!

After Causers Of This (one of our favourite records of 2010) and a couple of remixes, an EP and a 7", our boi Chaz steps up to 2011 with his next album, Underneath The Pine, due end of February.

Brand spanking new single "Still Sound" enjoys somewhat of a more French retro pop styling. A handsome bassline struts the disco-funk, loungey jazz keys twinkle away and his sweet register rides some nifty effects to further enhance the urgency of his sentiment. To top it all off, super smooth production makes it all come together in a way that would make both Phoenix and Tahiti 80 blush.

Whether or not this new direction comes hot off his recent Les Sins dabbling, ditching the more chill wave tinged sound completely on his latest release remains to be heard. It's definitely more in line with older tracks like "Low Shoulder" and "Talamak" that opts for more dance floor friendliness. Or perhaps it's simply the sporting of some new found sex appeal. To be frank, I don't care. I'm just looking forward to hearing more stuff that's as outstanding as this:

Toro Y Moi - Still Sound

More Pop, In The Sun

Death Cabi Ben Gibbard's cutie and our favourite silver screen starlet (aside from Scarlett) Zooey, has been singing in a duo with favourite flatpicker and smooth americana crooner M. Ward for a while now. After their debut album Volume One was released in 2008, she also collaborated on his 2009 album Hold Time, lending her sugary vox and harmonies to a lovely honky-tonk slow jammed rendition of Buddy Holly's "Rave On". The informal moniker suggests it's a fun fun fu-un thing for both She and Him, a happy-go-lucky outing; and this video of their single (off their new album Volume Two released round the beginning of this year), avers it deliciously.

So here ya go, some more timeless pop for the summer, "In The Sun", by She & Him:

She & Him - In The Sun from Merge Records on Vimeo.

Small Black Cover Besty Coasty! New 7"!

Just like the Ra Cailum post: Look at that image. How effing cool is it?

Anyhoo. I have the new Photojournalist 7" for you. It's got a slightly different version of the original song, with a more vinyl-heavy sound (higher mids, lower bass and highs, more warmth)

PLUS

It has this amazingly fucken amazing cover of Besty Coasty's Sun Was High (So Was I). It reminds me of this Rancid/NOFX split from back in the day; It seemed as if NOFX did Rancid's songs better than they did.
Seems the same on this 7".

TAKE IT.

Twee As Fuck

The Pastels

Since i spoke earlier on in December (Like three days ago!) about Pains of Being bla bla bla and mentioned Twee (very briefly), i thought i'd give you this:

The C86 Tape

It's a bit... didactic... but hey, whatevs.

I'd been looking for this tape ever since I started listening to Belle & Sebastien, researching Indie Pop, it's origins and, well, basically whatever the hell Twee was all about. It's [indie-pop's] meaning kindof changed hands over the years, but they [it and Twee] used to be one and the same thing: Jangly, amateurish, silly, childish, rainy-day vibes, simultaneously disregarded and self-disregarded: Just a bunch of normal average white kids making normal average pop songs, less angry and punk about stuff then sorta sad.
My kinda stuff. Feels like home.

Anyhoo, i hope you find some nice tracks in there. I did.

ADD:  Oh, hey, whilst looking for pictures to grace the top of this dingus i found an article by one of my favourite writers, Nitsuh Asebe: Twee as Fuck. It's a long read but infinitely worth it.

ALSO: Check out this guy's blog. He's definitely Twee As Fuck: SMAC in the face!

And 1000 blog years late we have...

WITCH HOUSE.

Not being uber-up on all the p4k/gorilla's&Bears/cokemachineglow or more mainline-blogosphere-trends due to lack of interweb conneckies earlier this year has meant that I've HEARD all ABOUT this whole witchy-housey thing but not actually HEARD IT.

From what I've gathered it sounds like a prepostorous amalgamation of hype and barely linked together bands/groups/people from around Ahmeeerica that have been lumped together to create some effing sweet blog-buzz; which it did and has.
This makes me wary.

However, i grabbed a listen to it and, without the hyperbole, it's actually quite simple really. It sounds like something Alice Glass might've been doing if they weren't so interested in making people dance. IF you like any of the more darkly tinged Crystal Castles moments, or have heard of and like Cold Cave (Here's a 12") or have considered you might like darkwave in any way (or, to a lesser extent, could have been a Goth-bro or LIKE wearing black cos it makes you feel COOL) then you'll definitely like this a whole bunch.

This Split 7" of White Ring & oOoOO is pretty rad; the White Ring song speaks more to me in terms of the Glass-y vibes, all shouty and what not.

This song, King, off White Rings' Vinyl-only (so hip) EP, Black Earth That Made Me, is more of the downtempo, DRAG-y nature; SOO Gothic:

So ANGRY about SOMETHING

ADD: Totes going to be wearing ALL-BLACK this new year. It seems... easier. At least i'll look all witchy.

Driving Gundam Wing Fighter-Class Battleships

Look at that image. Just look at it. Doesn't it look awesome?

Ra Cailum is a dude from Saint Louis, Chicago, and, apparently, he likes driving.

I like driving too, Cailum-bro, and I was driving to your music the other day and it made me pretty effing happy. It's like a more down-tempo shoe-gaze linked up/ambient linked up Chillwave - if Chillwave could get anymore down-tempo it'd be terminal (only some might get this reference - if you don't, Czech out Neon Indian's Psychic Chasms and DL that sonuvabitch cos it's hella good).

Cailum-bro looks like a bit of a nerd, so there's some sci-fi and, oddly enough, house-y elements going on in here too.

Anyhoo, checkout these songs:

Waterfalls has a delightful Ducktails sounding surfy beat and riff, almost Cure-ish, until some lovely arching melodies coming rushing in at a staid pace and the trademark chillwave background reverb-drenched vocals spill in.

Here's the pretty pretty-pastoral-sounding, For Justin And Will.

These are both off the debut, Walkabout. I suggest you get it. It's good.

If you want to know more about Ra Cailum, go HERE.

Kisses- Other Planets EP

Kisses recently released an EP entitled Other Planets. The EP consists of four instrumental tracks named after space shuttles. The songs kinda sound like the back round music of old National Geographic videos from the 60's and 70's.

Covers

Alrighty I have have two covers to share with you guys today.

The first of which is a cover that GOBBLE GOBBLE did of some rap crew called The Dreams.

The next is a cover that The Golden Filter did of some 80's band called Psychic TV.

New Pains of Being Twee at Heart 7"

A cursory listen to this EP leaves me with a tingly sense of joy, of easiness, of coyness - kinda like a Stars record. I just want to smile, vaguely, and bop my head from side-to-side. Maybe skip a little. Twee as fuck.

When me and me guitarist were first listening to Pains' for the first time, he exclaimed: "I can't beleive how much they're ripping off My Bloody Valentine."
I think that's because I only had one track, namely: Come Saturday; BUT it grabbed me... eventually, with it's more Twee-ish injection of glee and lightness, mostly as on A Teenager In Love off their debut.

A good combo, really. This EP has lost a little of that jangly C86 vibe, it's a bit more slick but NOT any less silly and fun for it: like Belle and Sebastien or, especially, Camera Obscura can be at the best of times. Enjoy.
