J Mass-kiss goes solo!

So, J M@scis, singer/guitarist from indie rock great Dinosaur Jr, has just released his first official solo album "Several Shades Of Why". So often, when front men do solo records, they end up sounding just like their original band and it all seems a bit pointless. Fortunately this is not the case here. Since reforming Dinosaur Jr. in 2005 JM has put out 2 pretty awesome records of fuzzy noisy pop-rock in the same vein as their output during the 80s and 90s. With his solo effort he has gone the acoustic route and stuck with the winning formula of great melodies, subtle instrumentation and superb song writing. It's undeniably JM with his distinctive vocals and excellent guitar playing yet there is enough here to set this apart from his work with Dinosaur Jr.

It makes me very happy to see JM still putting out such great music after all these years and, along with 90s contemporaries such as Pavement, Sebadoh and The Posies, showing that good old fashioned indie rock is still relevant.
